about my work
In 2015, I began to notice intriguing and engaging reflections in my environment. Sunlight bright or diffuse, reflecting off of everyday objects, creating humorous and mystical images. I became captivated by what I saw, digitally photographing and videotaping these ethereal images over time.
I describe my work on reflections as abstract photography. The following excerpt from iphotography (2021) closely exemplifies how I view the photos:
“ … abstract photography is exactly what the viewer makes it, and it can hold many different interpretations, views and opinions. … it offers many different ways of looking at a subject. ... could there be more to it than meets the eye?”
Based on my photography of "Reflections," I published a book entitled "Abstract Reflections - A Modernist Perspective" (2023) available through this website. In search of where my photographs may fit with a particular genre, I came across the modernists - the creators of abstract photography - -their processes so different from how I digitally photograph images using an iPhone and Nikon 950.
In addition, I completed a new exhibit and book entitled "Enveloped by Clouds - A Photographic Spiritual Journey". The emphasis is on the inherent abstract nature, beauty, and magnitude of clouds providing the viewer with a meditative experience.
Other sections of the website reflect my personal relationship with the environment, through Water, Sky, Shadows, and the Sea.
biography
My early career began in fine arts and then diverged into the field of public service, interior design and metaphysical studies.
With these interests, I obtained degrees in fine arts at Queens College, NY; a PhD in Clinical Social Work & Social Welfare, Adelphi University, NY; a certificate in Interior Design, Parson’s School of Design, NY & most recently received a B.Msc in Metaphysics, AZ.
I am passionate about photographing reflective light whether off of objects or through the clouds. Integrating a metaphysical view has helped me to understand how to be aware of and relate to the images that occur naturally in our environment.
